Designing Sora Ascension: Notes From SOLANI

Sora Ascension is the third and final pad in the Sora trilogy. Awakening was the moment she felt the power move. Carnage was the moment it moved without her. Ascension is the moment she became still enough to hold it. The artist behind all three, SOLANI, took this one somewhere the earlier pads never went. He made it white. Here is how he thought about it, in his words and ours.

The Shift

In the earlier Sora work, the power raged outside her control. The energy overflowed and took command of her. Ascension reverses that. The matured Sora now holds the force consciously and on her own terms.

SOLANI built this idea through three choices: condensed energy, a composed facial expression, and effects that combine geometric patterns. The chaos from the previous pads is still here. It has simply learned to sit.

Why White

This time SOLANI came to us with a specific request. He wanted the pad in white.

"I created it with the intention that, while it has a large amount of visual information and a high level of density, it could still be used naturally on a desk coordinated in white tones."

The aim was a piece packed with detail that still belongs on a clean, white-toned desk rather than fighting it.

The Hardest Part

Getting the whiteness right was the real work. Lean too far into white and the design washes out into a plain surface. Lean too hard on the elements and the contrast turns harsh. SOLANI spent a long time hunting for the point in between.

"I searched for a good balance by creating an extremely complex pattern and limiting the areas where strong contrast was used."

That tension is the whole design. Maximum density, minimum noise.

What to Notice

SOLANI's hope for the pad is a quiet one.

"I would be happy if you use it in your daily life and take a moment to look at the small details when your hands are free."

The detail rewards a closer look once the surface has settled into your desk.

A Shared Piece

SOLANI also wanted to credit the people who carried the design across the finish line. Based on his artwork, the manufacturing team and the Wallhack team made careful adjustments to deliver the final product.

His closing thought says it best: he hopes the piece they made together adds a little more color to your everyday life than today.
