The K-001 and M-001 reveal in Tokyo

The K-001 and M-001 Reveal in Tokyo

Straight after ChinaJoy, the Wallhack team travelled to Tokyo. On August 7 and 8 we held two events for the K-001 keyboard and the M-001 mouse: a dinner for media and industry guests, and an open community session.

The two formats were very different, but the goal was the same. We wanted to put the products in people's hands instead of talking about them from a stage. Here is what happened at both.

The Dinner at Tokyo Burnside

The first event was held at Tokyo Burnside. The space pairs minimal Scandinavian design in black and silver with the feel of a Japanese izakaya, built around an open kitchen.

That layout was part of why we chose it. Everything is prepared in full view of the guests, which matches how we think about our own products: show how something is made rather than hide it behind a finished surface.

The menu was created by Chef Matsuzawa of the restaurant Ark, with each dish drawn from the new products.

A Presentation Built Around the Parts

We did not open with the finished hardware. The components were laid out on the table, and the team went through them one at a time.

For each part we explained the reasoning: the material, the construction, and the mechanism we settled on and what it was chosen over.

The room was full of journalists and reviewers who handle new hardware constantly. Even so, the knob, the surface finish and the build quality got a reaction the moment people picked them up.

An evening of food, conversation and disassembled parts gave us the room to explain the thinking behind those decisions, rather than read out a list of specifications.

The Community Session

The next day we moved to an esports venue in Tokyo for an open event with close to 100 attendees. Both products were on display and free to try. The shift was intentional. Day one was us explaining the products. Day two was other people testing them.

The Apex 2v2 Custom Match

The main activity was a 2v2 Apex custom match, with places drawn by lottery on the day and teams put together on the spot. The games were closer than anyone expected, and the room got loud. A Wallhack team reached the final and lost to a duo of two young players.

What People Noticed

Most attendees sat down and started playing with little explanation. The knob makes the actuation point easy to adjust, so people could set the keyboard up the way they wanted in a few seconds.

A lot of the day went into the smaller details: how the switches sound, and how the mouse feels over a longer session. Attendees compared notes with each other and with our team, and a number of them left having met someone new.

Where We Go Next

We would like to run events like these in other cities. If you want us in yours, tell us on social media. We are using those responses to decide where to go next.

The K-001 goes on sale on August 21. Full specifications are on the K-001 campaign page. We will share more on the M-001 as its own launch gets closer.
