Miku OS – The 2000s Chat Room Dream Just Landed on Your Desk

We teamed up with Crypton Future Media and the illustrator najuco on a Hatsune Miku pad. The artwork is built around the early 2000s internet most of us first met Miku on. The pad is a limited run, with pre-orders opening soon.

About the Pad

The pad recreates a fragment of the era Miku originally launched in. Najuco built the artwork around a Windows XP-style desktop, with Miku painted in the foreground. The product code on the front, 0831-2007, is the day Hatsune Miku shipped.

For anyone who grew up with Miku in the late 2000s, the pad is meant to feel like opening a folder you forgot you had.

The Collaboration

Crypton Future Media is the studio behind Hatsune Miku. They created her in 2007 and have managed her character ever since. Working with them directly means the artwork, the references, and the product code on the pad are all officially licensed.

Najuco is the illustrator. Bringing her on meant we could lean into the specific Japanese web aesthetic of the era without compromising on illustration quality.
