Why use dot skates? Are they universal?

In a nutshell, dot skates cover less surface area compared to traditional stock or aftermarket skates. This seemingly minor alteration has a profound impact on performance, especially when paired with glass or other hard mouse pads. The reduced surface area translates to less friction between the mouse and the pad, giving gamers and aimers unparalleled mouse speed and precision.

How do I place my dot skates? What's the best layout?

Generally speaking, a 3 by 3 layout is recommended (see above picture), comprising three dots placed on both the top and bottom skate areas. Place one dot on the left, one in the middle, and one on the right for each area. This layout provides a balanced distribution of friction across the mouse's movement, ensuring smoother and more precise control. Alternatively, a 2 by 2 layout is also great.

When should I replace my skates?

While there is no specific time frame for replacing mouse skates, there are telltale signs that it's time for an upgrade. If you notice a slowdown in mouse glide or experience instability and wobbling on the mouse pad, these are clear indicators that the skates may be reaching the end of their useful life. These issues can negatively impact gaming performance, accuracy, and overall user experience.

Which Skates shape is best for me?

PILL FORM FACTOR: The pill shape provides more control with fewer skates. The larger surface area reduces depression on soft pads which prevents your mouse from bottoming out.

DOT FORM FACTOR: The dot shape minimizes the contact point, which in turn reduces friction. Dot skates are designed to optimize for speed.

What material should i pick? PTFE vs UHMW-PE

UHMW-PE SKATES: Long molecular chains ensure superb force distribution on a molecular level. These skates have a higher Friction Coefficient and a quieter, more durable structure - especially great on glass.

PTFE SKATES: Same material as Teflon, one of the slickest solid materials, these skates have an incredibly low Friction Coefficient

the opening for the palm is too tight (had to cut into mine at the palm for it not to squeeze my hand so much), while the opening at the top is too wide (making the sleeve adjustable for thin arms with sth like a velcro strip would be nice)

It's quite the large pad, at least for me since I came from using artisan mouse pads. The unboxing experience is crazy, and by crazy I meant hey really went out of their way to go above and beyond. The pad itself is amazing. I honestly expected it to be really slippery and thought that I would need some time to adjust myself but it's actually perfect. Coming from an artisan hein, the sp-005 didn't feel too hard to get used to at all. It has the right amount of speed balanced by enough control in that the stopping power isn't difficult. The main reason why I switched to wallhack glass pads was that I was tired of cleaning my cloth pads. That's unironically my only reason lol. I don't get the downsides others are saying. Don't feel any "stickiness" or anything like that. This is my first glass pad btw.

Coming from a Skypad 3.0 this would have been the best pad to transition from traditional cloth pads.
